Phonics
At Dundry, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised as our phonics programme
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is a phonics programme which aims to build on children’s speaking and listening skills as well as preparing children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.
Our phonics teaching starts in EYFS, with the aim of all children becoming fluent readers as they move into Key Stage 2.
Please watch this presentation, explaining how phonics and reading is taught at Dundry Primary School.
Pure Sounds
It is really important that the children are saying all sounds as ‘pure sounds’ (ie not saying an ‘uh’ sound on the end) As referred to in the presentation, here are the videos showing how all sounds should be pronounced. Click on link (not picture!)
Progression
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Programme is broken down to teach sounds in a certain order . These are set out in the Programme Overview below.
Grapheme support
Here are our Phase 2 and 3 graphemes that the children will learn in Reception. As we transition between Dundry and Little Wandle images, the children will have learnt the Dundry image for w (web) z (zap) The early Phase 2 images will be used from September 2022
